Interview
2004
How did you become a designer/artist?
I knew I wanted to be a designer in high school. My mother is an artist and elementary art school teacher, she was a big influence. I attended the Kansas City Art Institute and from there got a great internship with EAT Design (Kansas City, MO). The principles at EAT were very supportive and our vision and style just clicked. I bounced around various design studios in Kansas City, Providence and moved to NYC in 1997. Having my own studio was a long held dream of mine and in June of 2003 I launched McMillian Design.
Where are you from originally?
I grew up in a small town – Trenton, Missouri.
What are you doing now?
We have just completed a 64 page product catalog for a major client and we are working on an identity system for a ad agency in Kansas City.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan over the next couple of years to grow the company and take on a full time staff.
What American artist inspires you most?
Frank Lloyd Wright.
What unlocks your creativity?
The sights and sounds of Brooklyn, NY.
